Program Basics
Q: How do I participate in the Dallas Works Program?
A: If you’re between 16-21, sign up here. A new cohort begins each fall. If you are eligible, you’ll be invited to participate in available Career Ready Workshops.
Q: If I am a high school student in Dallas but not in Dallas ISD, can I participate in Dallas Works?
A: You may still be eligible if you live or attend a school in Dallas County.
Q: How old do you have to be to be eligible for Dallas Works?
A: You must be 16 by June 1 and no older than 21 by August 1 to be eligible for Dallas Works.
Q: Can I participate in Dallas Works if I graduate from high school and don’t plan to go to college?
A: Yes. You do not have to be a current student to participate in Dallas Works.
Q: If I am not eligible for Dallas Works, what other programs can I do?

Q: Can I still put Dallas Works on my resume even if I don’t get an internship?
A: Absolutely! Dallas Works is a comprehensive program that includes career ready workshops and internships. If you earn badges through the workshops, include those on your resume to show the valuable skills you learned.

Career Ready Workshops
Q: How do I sign up for workshops?
A: Register for the program (we accept new cohorts beginning each fall); if you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be invited to join the cohort and get access to a workshop sign up list.
Q: What topics are covered in the workshops?
A: Topics are organized by Career Ready Pathway. The Professionalism and Vocational Competence pathway includes topics such as resume writing, AI in the workplace, and conducting a job search; Communication and Confidence topics include topics such as public speaking and personal branding; Open Worldview and Inclusion experiences include Networking, social capital, and cultural outings in Dallas.
Q: When and where do workshops take place?
A: Workshops are scheduled weekly between October and April the following year. They are hybrid. The majority are in-person at businesses in the Dallas area, and some are on Zoom. Workshops are on weekday evenings after 5pm.
Q: Can I participate in Dallas Works if I don’t have transportation to in-person workshops?
A: Dallas Works provides transportation from several Dallas area high school locations to in-person workshops. Details are provided during Orientation.
Q: What is the dress code for workshops?
A: Business casual. If in doubt, the All Stars Project team provides guidance on the appropriate professional costume.
Q: What are digital badges?
A: Credentials that reflect the skills you gain as a Dallas Works participant. Share your badges on social media and with employers on a resume.
Q: How do I earn digital badges?
A: By completing a range of workshop topics covered in a Dallas Works Career Ready Pathway. Badges are typically awarded in early June at the end of the Career Ready Workshop phase.
Q: How will we receive digital badges?
A: Digital badges are delivered to the email we have on file once you complete the required number of workshops in a Career Ready Pathway. You will need to accept the badge to display it on social media.
Internship Prep Bootcamp
Q: How do I participate in the Internship Prep Bootcamp? If I participated in the Career Ready Workshops, do I have to apply for the Internship Prep Bootcamp?
A: Yes, to be considered for the Internship Prep Bootcamp (mandatory for internship placement), you must apply even if you participated in the workshops.
Q: Will Bootcamp be virtual or in-person?
A: This is fully in-person.
Q: What will I learn at Bootcamp?
A: Bootcamp prepares you to make the most of your internship. Through sessions and experiences focused on developing professional communication skills, using Microsoft Office, participating in mock job interviews placement onboarding, and outings to help build confidence in new environments. And you’ll build relationships with peers.
Q: What are the dates for the Internship Prep Bootcamp? Do I have to attend all of Bootcamp?
A: Internship Orientation typically takes place in mid-May, and Bootcamp is usually held during the first week of June (see homepage for exact dates). To be eligible for the internship, students must attend Orientation, complete the Mock Job Interview, and participate in all Bootcamp sessions.
Internship
Q: What do I need to be eligible for an internship with Dallas Works?
A: To be eligible for the internship, students must meet the requirements (see here) and successfully complete the Internship Prep Bootcamp
Q: When will I know if I got an internship?
A: Interns will be notified of their placements within 1 week of completing the Internship Prep Bootcamp.
Q: What are the onboarding requirements for an internship?
A: Interns will complete an I-9 with at least two forms of physical identification documentation. Some companies require background checks and drug tests. All information will be shared with you after your internship placement. Contact Prescilla here with any questions you have about onboarding requirements.
Q: How will I be placed in an internship?
A: We consider many factors to support a successful placement, including student interests and qualifications, company/intern location, organizational culture, environment and structure.
Q: What types of jobs are included in the internship program?
A: The program includes jobs in administration, information technology, human resources, finance, engineering, nonprofit, City services, and more.
Q: Are the internships in person?
A: The internships can be in person and hybrid. We do not have fully remote internships. Please plan to participate in a fully in-person internship.
Q: What if we are planning to be out of town for part of the summer?
A: Prospective interns are expected to participate fully in the Bootcamp (Orientation and Program) and the internship. If you are unable to commit currently, we recommend that you do not apply this year.
Q: How much do interns make?
A: Interns earn a minimum of $18/hour.
Q: Will the internships be full-time or part-time?
A: We offer both full-time and part-time internship opportunities, between 20 – 40 hours/week.
Q: What kind of bank account do I need for a direct deposit? Can I use CashApp?
A: You can use any bank account that is FDIC insured. CashApp cannot be used since it is not a bank. For direct deposit, you’ll need to provide your company with the following information from your bank account:

Q: Will I need to file taxes because of this job?
A: Yes, because your paychecks will be taxed, you will need to file taxes for the year.
Q: If I have trouble with my internship, who should I contact?
A: First, talk with your supervisor. If you are uncomfortable talking with your supervisor, reach out to your Internship Coach for support.
Q: Do I need to bring my own laptop or materials?
A: Your sponsor company will provide you with the materials you need for your job.
